Dear readers and friends,
Today I propose you another fascinating article that can be considered part of traditional oriental medicine which is mostly used in Indian medicine, in meditation and in yoga: MUDRA.
A mudra commonly refers to a ritual gesture of the fingers and hands. Many mudras induce a feeling of calm by directly influencing the nervous system. Ancient Hindi treatises describe in detail the 72,000 nadis (nerve channels in the body) and their relationship to the mind
Mudras are symbolic hand gestures used in yoga and other spiritual traditions to achieve physical, energetic, and/or spiritual benefits. The word "Mudra" in Sanskrit means "seal" or "gesture." Each Mudra has a specific purpose, such as calming the mind, increasing concentration, balancing emotions, or channeling energy.
An elaborate language of mudras is also present in the iconography of ritual dances in India. The purpose of a mudra is to activate and create a circuit of prana (life force) in the body. This circuit channels prana in a specific way to create subtle effects and beneficial changes on different parts of the body.
The science of hand positions, or Mudra, as it is known in meditation and yoga practices, is based on the knowledge of techniques used to access the vortex points of the chakras through the meridians. In Eastern texts, one aspect of this science is developed through the connection of the body's circuits in various combinations, to produce specific tensions within the body and their corresponding frequencies.
At the fleshy tip of each finger is an electrical contact point that provides direct access to a chakra area through one or more meridians. Each fingertip is associated with a primary chakra, although it may also have secondary access to other chakras.
Have you ever wondered why we use the classic prayer hand position?
Each fingertip touching the opposite hand completes the circuits and provides simultaneous access to the associated chakra areas and body grids. The net effect is amplified by contact with the large chakras located in the center of each hand, the palmar chakras. It is through these access points, the fingertips and palmar chakras, that energy, information and light are directed to other parts of the body. For many, these techniques are almost instinctive, reflecting a "knowing" from another aspect of their being. Through the science of Mudra, prayer can become an intentional process of recognizing a "oneness" with creation.
