Dear friends,
As in every context of Life Coaching that we are examining, there are little explanations and lots of questions. Finding these answers is our task, discovering ourselves and then improving ourselves and loving ourselves for who we are is the ultimate goal. As already mentioned in several articles:
“A question at the right time can change your life or at least the vision you have of it”.
Today we will talk about Socratic questions: a useful tool for analyzing a problem and starting to understand what to do. These Questions are used by the coach to converse with his client or as I try to do with these articles, stimulate your introspection and work on yourself on your own. This does not mean doing everything yourself but if you need help contact the qualified people for this purpose.
The Socratic method is a dialectical method of philosophical inquiry based on dialogue , first described by Plato in his Dialogues , starring the Greek philosopher Socrates . Given its nature, it is also called "maieutic" (from the Greek μαιευτική (τέχνη), properly «(art) of midwifery», «obstetrics», derived from μαῖα «mother, midwife») in the sense that it "gives birth" to the interlocutor . SOCRATIC QUESTIONS
- What is the evidence for this thought? Against it?
- Am I basing this thought on facts or feelings?
- Is this thought black and white, when reality is more complicated?
- Can I misinterpret the evidence? Am I making assumptions?
- Could other people have different interpretations of the same situation? Which ones are they?
- Am I looking at all the evidence or just what supports my thinking?
- Could my thought be an exaggeration of what is true?
- Do I have this thought out of habit or do the facts support it?
- Has anyone passed me this thought/belief? If yes, are they a reliable source?
- Is my thinking a likely scenario or is it the worst case scenario?
