Dear readers and friends,
Today I present to you a very interesting article on practical herbalism: how to create an oil lithus and in particular the one with lavender. In my opinion very useful to keep at home together with other herbal products that can be prepared at home.
The oil
The oleolith is the result of the maceration of plants in an oil (olive or almond) which can then be used to massage the face and body or as a base for the preparation of ointments, creams, peelings and soaps. Both dried and fresh plants can be used to produce the oil, but the procedures are a bit different; the oil with fresh plant requires a more complex process, but the final product is also more powerful.
Lavender oil (with fresh flowers)
Lavender oil The ratio of oil to fresh plant weight is one to twenty. For example: one liter of oil for 200 grams of fresh plant (flowers in this case).
Maceration stage
Pick the flowers in full bloom (June – July). Crush the flowers with a mortar, put them in a glass vase, add oil, mix with a wooden spoon; do not close the jar with the lid, but simply cover it with gauze or absorbent paper and label indicating the contents and the date of the day. Expose to the sun during the day, in the evening remove the gauze and close the glass jar with its lid. Leave to macerate for at least 21 days. Every day – at least three times a day – mix the preparation with a wooden spoon.
Filtration stage
At the end of the maceration period, strain the oil with a cloth or gauze and press what remains after pouring so that as much as possible is obtained from the macerated plant. Not having a small press available, the operation to do, and which comes closest to a pressing, is to squeeze the canvas containing the oil-impregnated flowers as much as possible.
Bottling stage
The final product, of pouring and pressing, is poured into a bottle or dark glass container, filling it, closing it well and labeling it indicating the contents and the date of the day.
Use of Lavender Oil
great calming and anti-inflammatory - for massages anywhere on the body as an anti-inflammatory - on the diaphragm, feet and temples as an anti-insomnia anxiolytic.
