Dear readers and friends,
Today I present to you another acupressure article: the shu and mu points.
The points shu and mu
These are complementary points: they are often used together, but since they have different characteristics we can always choose to act on one or the other. They are the most important as regards the energetic rebalancing of the various organs and viscera and, therefore, they must always be our first point of reference in all circumstances, whatever the disorder to be treated.
The Shu points are located on the back and are at the level of the Bladder Meridian, which is somewhat the rule of our body. This means that Shu points can be used to rebalance it in its entirety. They are Yang points, while the Mu ones are Yin (also because they are located on the front of the person).
Each Organ has its own precise Shu point, which can therefore be used to treat it. Generally, when an organ or a bowel will present an energy disturbance, the corresponding Shu point will also be painful to palpation. And this is one of the factors that will confirm to us the correctness of our interpretation of the client's disturbance.
Not only that: there may also be spots or rashes in the area of the spot in question. This is also a clue that will help us understand how much a point is involved and, consequently, its organ. In this sense, therefore, they can also be used as a diagnostic method, to understand if something is wrong.
Mu points, on the other hand, are located on the front of the body, but equally, they can be painful to the touch – and this is always an indication of the correctness of our diagnosis. The same is true if there are stains or other similar factors.
Shu points can be more painful than Mu (but the reverse is also true). Generally, it is believed that it depends on the fact that the former are Yang and, therefore, do more harm in the event of aggression from external agents. Instead, the Mu points seem to be more painful when the attacks come from within .
For example, if we were to treat a physical problem, it might be more helpful to treat the back points. If we were facing a psychic problem, however, it would be better to work on the previous points. Obviously we can do both – in fact, that's my advice (unless you have a valid reason to do only one).
These points, therefore, are very important to regularize the corresponding organs. They can be used effectively as a method of diagnosis. Working on the Shu and Mu points of the organ will certainly be more painful than working in other areas. Again: blemishes and skin irritations could help us pinpoint the problem area.
They are all important elements, but it is essential for us to understand how we can use these points to regulate an organ and, consequently, the whole organism and also the energy system of a person.
