Dear Readers and Friends,
Today I present to you a particular plant: the nettle, even if it can sometimes be annoying, it is truly a panacea for health.
NETTLE (Urtica dioica)
During a radio conference, a doctor pointed out that Nettle was one of the best medicinal plants we have. If humanity knew how great its healing power is, it would cultivate nothing else. Unfortunately only very few people know about it. Nettle is medicinal from root to stem, leaves and flower. Since ancient times it enjoyed great prestige. Albrecht Durer (1471 - 1528) painted an angel flying to the throne of the Lord holding a Nettle in his hand. The Swiss parish priest Kùnzle observes in his writings that the Nettle would already be eradicated if it did not defend itself by producing that well-known skin irritation to anyone who comes into contact with it. Insects and other animals would have already made it disappear.
Nettle is our best blood purifying and simultaneously anti-anemic medicinal plant. Furthermore, having a good influence on the pancreas, nettle tea lowers the blood sugar content. It also heals diseases and infections of the urinary tract and pathological retention of urine. At the same time having an accelerating effect on the bowel movement, it is particularly suitable for spring care.
Folk medicine recommends drinking Nettle tea for several weeks against liver and bile disorders and against spleen diseases, even in spleen tumors, gastric and bronchial catarrhs, cramps and stomach ulcers , in intestinal ulcers and lung diseases. To preserve the precious active ingredients, nettle is only blanched. In preventive care, drink only one cup of nettle tea a day throughout the year. It also proves to be of great help in viral diseases and bacterial elimination.
From a certain age the iron content in the body decreases. As a result, states of tiredness and exhaustion occur, one feels old and less capable. In these cases, the use of fresh nettle which contains iron will lead to excellent results. It helps us to overcome this difficult situation. After a cure based on Nettle, strength is quickly recovered, energy and the desire to work return; the external appearance also improves.
Nettle helps in dropsy through a strong diuresis. Through its antianemic substances it helps those suffering from chlorosis, anemia, and other serious blood disorders. Together with other medicinal herbs, Nettle is also used successfully in leukemia. Anyone suffering from any allergy (such as hay fever), drink nettle tea for a prolonged period. Nettle free from the predisposition to colds and gives relief in gouty and rheumatic diseases. Even in cases of arterial obstruction (smoker's leg) Nettle is of great benefit. Many people suffering from this disease could avoid amputation of the leg by taking nettle root foot baths in time. Any cramp or spasm, regardless of its origin, it is due to blood flow dysfunction. In these cases, baths and ablutions with nettle tea are recommended. This also particularly refers to coronary artery vasoconstriction. Bow down on the edge of the bath and wash, massaging lightly, the heart area with nettle tea.
A nun of the order of St. Elisabeth from Klagenfurt also followed my advice and was amazed at the good result. The spots that appeared in the belly and back area accompanied by severe itching and that didn't decide to disappear, had disappeared in a flash following the ingestion of nettle tea and a diet for the liver. Even in a very similar case, nettle tea had helped quickly.
From a letter from Dellach in Carinthia I quote the following passage: «A cordial thanks for the invaluable help you have given me through your recommendations. During my 19-year illness, I had been to many neurological institutes in Austria. No doctor could tell me what I was actually suffering from, nor could he give me any relief. For a week I drank nettle tea and, as if by magic, the disease disappeared, as if I had never suffered from it.» From the facts reported here it is clear how quickly our medicinal herbs can take effect. In those cases, of course, a single cup a day is not needed: in serious illnesses it is necessary to sip at least two liters a day. A merchant told me that every time she went on a trip, or on some business trip, she brought with her, in a thermos, nettle tea. In fact, he swears by its good effects. Not only does it serve as a thirst quencher better than any other drink, but it invigorates and removes all tiredness.
Another particular indication: in cases of sciatica, lumbago, inflammation of the nerves in the arms and legs, the area is massaged very lightly with fresh nettle. In sciatica, for example, the fresh seedling is rubbed very slowly on the skin, starting from the external malleolus of the foot up the leg to the hip and from there along the inside of the leg to the heel. This massage is repeated twice and finally again from the hip down through the buttock. The same goes for other suffering parts. Talcum powder is then applied to the area.
Shouldn't we be grateful to the Lord for the grace of having given us this miraculous plant? In these times of ephemeral life, people proceed absentmindedly without seeing it and prefer to use analgesic drugs that are ingested in an exaggerated amount. Instead, only our unfortunately forgotten healing herbs are a safe remedy. Finally, I would like to add one more experience that made a great impression on me. In our small town I met an old lady who told me that the doctor had diagnosed cancerous adhesions to her stomach. Due to her advanced age, she did not decide to have an operation. At this point someone suggested that she drink nettle tea. Every day she went to the garden along whose fence Nettles grew and every time she brought home a handful. When after some time she went to be examined by the doctor, he asked her in amazement: «Did you have an operation? How did it happen that If we only have esteem for our Nettle, and if we ingest its wonderful power in the form of herbal tea at regular intervals, a malignant tumor can never form.
Last but not least, good advice: start today with the Nettle cure. Dried it can be found in any pharmacy or herbalist's shop. Let's bring medicinal herbs back into our homes. In the spring, arm yourself with scissors and gloves and go out into the countryside in the free nature of God. It is a great satisfaction to personally pick the nettles under the infinite celestial vault of our Lord. The fresher they are used, the greater their healing effect, as is known from experience. But remember to prepare a reserve for the winter by picking Nettles in May. Rejoice that you yourself can be of service to your health.
A reader from Westphalia writes: «My neighbor also uses Nettles to destroy insects and vermin in his garden. He puts a large quantity of Nettles in a barrel containing about 300 liters of water (but a smaller quantity can also be prepared) and leaves it to macerate for a certain time. With this solution he repeatedly waters all his plants thus keeping them free from insects without chemical means. Even carrots remain undisturbed by worms.”
On the other hand, today there are farmers who spray the nettles with their herbicides, which grow along the immaculate green edges of meadows and woods, far from roads and pollution. In this way the poisons harmful to man reach the farthest and most uncontaminated corners of the woods. But these gentlemen do not realize that they also kill birds and insects in this way. Many farmers no longer even bother to cut the nettles with a scythe. How blind we human beings have become!

METHOD OF PREPARATION
Herbal tea : Scald a dessert spoonful of Nettle with 1/4 liter of water and let it rest for a short time.
Tincture: Brush and chop the roots dug in spring or autumn and introduce them into a bottle up to the neck. Grain brandy of 38 - 40° C is poured over it and left in a heated place.
Footbaths: Four abundant handfuls of well washed and brushed roots and respectively of fresh Nettle (stem and leaves) are left to soak overnight in 5 liters of water and then heated until boiling. Soak your feet for 20 minutes at the highest tolerable temperature. Nettles remain in the water during the footbath. The solution can be reused, after heating it again, another 2 or 3 times.
