The painful pressure points are judged to be areas where excessive energy has accumulated.
Points that feel pleasant to pressure are judged to be areas where there is a lack of energy. Acupressure points are usually treated bilaterally. When the energy is excessive, apply deeper pressure and hold it until the accessing energy dissipates. When energy is low, apply moderate pressure, using the flat side of the thumb, and hold to draw blood and Qi to that area. (approximately 3 minutes).
