Dear Readers,
Another life coaching article that continues the previous article Setting goals (intelligently) . A broader look to find goals and create a better vision of your future.
Goals are what our desires become when we give them deadlines to make them a reality. For you to feel like you're moving forward and making adequate progress in life, it's imperative that the goals you commit to pursue play a role in guiding you toward achieving a greater goal, a vision for your life as a whole.
Setting and achieving healthy goals is essential to our well-being and happiness. Striving towards realistic goals shows that you are in control of your life and not the other way around.
While you may prioritize the practicalities of achieving goals over everything else, visualizing a goal is more important than having all the answers. The first stage in building a house is its blueprints which show the final vision of what the house will look like in the end. Without a blueprint, it will be impossible for the builder to know what the final product should look like.
If you don't have a clear vision of what you want to accomplish in life, you can end up spending years running around in circles engaging in things that don't interest you and becoming frustrated with life. People who are not actively working towards a goal or vision in life will often experience life as meaningless and without direction.
A meaningful vision of your future can be as simple as making a difference in another person's life or it could impact the world on a massive scale with all the consequences that it entails.
The first step of goal setting is to define your vision and take full responsibility for what you want to achieve.
This vision cannot be what you think other people want you to do or even what you "think" is just a good idea. It's important to understand that "good ideas" work if they don't come from the same place as meaningful visions.
The vision and goals you develop for your future may not be what other people want or expect from you because the purpose here is not to please others but to find something that will motivate you for the rest of your life .
If you don't have a vision for your future, visualize your life in five years - how do you imagine yourself in the best-case scenario? This should give you a starting point to define at least one or two goals. If you want to be successful with goal setting, you need to define the most important goals you have for each area of your life. Without having a set of goals in life that inspire you, you won't have much clarity of focus and direction for your future.
Goal setting allows you to take control of the direction of your life and also provides you with a benchmark that can be used to determine whether or not you are making progress towards these goals. First, though, to achieve any goal in life, you need to know how to set a goal.
Goal setting is a process that begins with careful consideration of what you truly want to achieve. The part of the goal setting process that most people dislike is the hard work it takes to achieve goals.
However, it's worth remembering that hard work only feels very heavy when it doesn't truly inspire you to achieve the goal .
Between setting goals and achieving them is a series of five steps that transcend the specifics of each goal. Understanding these steps will allow you to set realistic goals that you can confidently achieve .
Tip: When setting goals, it's crucial that they inspire you.
Your goals should aim to positively benefit the world in some way in areas that are important to you. If your goals are small, uninspiring, and irrelevant to someone's quality of life, the chances you'll invest time into achieving them are slim.
Genuine inspiration is the key principle behind successful goal setting.
It is important to set goals that align with your main priorities in life. If you don't have this degree of focus, you run the risk of feeling overwhelmed by them and not even knowing where to start.
Achieving goals takes effort, patience and perseverance – and if you are missing any of these elements, your chances of achieving your goals are limited.
So, to maximize your chances of achieving goal success, remember to make sure your goals are both inspiring and relevant to you. Ask yourself, "If I were to share my goal with other people, would they view my goals as meaningful and big, or selfish and small?" How you answer this question will determine whether or not your goals are worth pursuing!
Like any life coaching article, I end up saying that being honest with yourself is essential for the success of any introspection. Responsibility generates Growth.
