Practical Herbal Medicine: Rhinitis, Cough, Cold, Fever

Dear readers and friends,

Today I present to you some pathologies of the respiratory system with their respective herbal treatments.

Obviously we will see some herbal remedies that work but as always, before doing self-diagnosis and do-it-yourself treatments, it is always better to go to a doctor.

When the results of a therapy based on medicinal plants should be disappointing, resort, without hesitation, to synthetic drugs that your trusted doctor will recommend.

VASOMOTOR RHINITIS: It is an affection affecting the nasal mucosa, not due to allergic or infectious phenomena, with production of mucus, sneezing and nasal obstruction.

Ribes nigrum (buds) M.G.  + Rosa canina (young shoots) M.G.. The mixture is composed of the two preparations present in equal parts.  Take 100 drops of this gemmotherapy blend upon awakening.

 COUGH

Grindelia T.M.: 30 drops in a little water 4 times a day away from meals

Thyme T.M.: 40 drops in a little water 2 times a day after meals

 Or:

Poligala TM: 40 drops 3 times a day after meals.

Enula T.M.: 40 drops in a little water 3 times a day away from meals.

 Herbal tea for cough

 30% Eucalyptus 30% Lungwort 20% Coltsfoot 20% Marshmallow

ALLERGIC RHINITIS: It is an inflammatory process of allergic origin that affects the nasal cavities as an acute or chronic fact.  It depends on the sensitization of the nasal mucous membranes to various types of substances that have antigenic power, such as pollen, dust, drugs.  Often this inflammatory process also extends to the eyes (oculorhinitis), resulting in watery eyes, itching and sneezing.

Ribes nigrum (buds) M.G.: 50 drops, 3 times a day, or 80 drops, 2 times a day.  We recommend eye drops based on Euphrasia officinalis (whole plant) T.M.  and it is also useful to wash the nose with: Euphrasia afficinalis (whole plant) T. M. 3 ml Physiological solution q.  b.  60 ml Nasal washes several times a day.

COLD - ACUTE RHINITIS: Disease of viral origin usually with a benign course, however it can become complicated by extending to nearby organs (pharyngitis, laryngitis, tracheo-bronchitis, otitis).  Factors favoring the onset of the disease are the cold and humidity in winter.  The most common symptoms are nasal congestion with exudate, of the eyes and pharynx.  In the most demanding cases, there is also a fever and exhaustion.

In acute phases: Ribes nigrum (buds) M.G.: (decongestant) 80 drops, 2 times a day.

In cases of relapses also extended to the paranasal sinuses: Carpinus betulus (buds) M.G.: (nasopharyngeal elective tropism) 25-50 drops, 2-3 times a day.

 FEVER

Centaurea minor T.M.: 30 drops in a little water 2 times a day after meals.

Ginger TM: 30 drops 3 times a day away from meals.

Ribes nigrum T.M.: 50 drops in a little water 2 times a day, morning and evening.
